  What is Know Your Watershed?
  It is a national initiative to encourage the formation of local, voluntary watershed partnerships and help assure that partnerships attain their goals. The initiative is sponsored by National Partners representing more than 70 private and public corporations, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. Each agrees to provide financial and/or in-kind support.
  The national effort is coordinated by the Conservation Technology Information Center (CTIC), a non-profit data transfer center with the mission to promote environmentally and economically beneficial natural resource systems.
  What does the initiative do?
  Serves as information clearinghouse
  • Updates, maintains, and promotes the National Watershed Network, an on-line database of active watershed partnerships used by local, regional, state, and national organizations.
  • Updates, maintains, and promotes the National Watershed Library, an on-line database of information resources for local watershed groups.
  • Gathers and shares information with local watershed groups to keep them abreast of new tools, sources of assistance, research, techniques, conferences, etc.
  • Provides starter information to those interested in starting a watershed partnership.
  • Identifies challenges faced by local partnerships and coordinates efforts to help partnerships overcome challenges.

 

Stimulates multiplication of efforts

  • Encourages and assists National Partners with constituent program development.
  • Works with National Partners to coordinate messages so National Partners can empower constituents and others who have a stake in the local watershed to take charge of their natural resources.
  • Serves as a conduit between National Partners which have developed useful tools and the watershed partnerships who need them.
  • Shares state activities and successes with other states' state-level stakeholders.
  • Facilitates and/or encourages broad-based state-level partnerships that encourage and provide support to local watershed partnerships.
  • Facilitates mentoring of newer watershed groups by more seasoned groups that have faced similar challenges.

  National Watershed Library
Locates the watershed and BMP information you need. Describes nearly 1000 brochures, videos, guides, manuals, proceedings, technical materials, workshop materials, slide shows, annual reports, newsletters, and more. Audiences include rural, suburban, and urban residents, outdoor enthusiasts, schools, general public, farmers and ranchers, forestry, and others. Ordering information (many items are free) provided.   National Watershed Network
Ideal for locating watershed partnerships that have faced similar challenges to yours. Basic information about the watershed (size, location, water uses, land uses, major issues, major stakeholders, active partners, local contact) included. Lists more than 1000 watershed groups. Contact the watershed coordinator to get advice from someone who has faced similar challenges. Serves as a mentoring program. Coordinators of partnerships listed on the National Watershed Network receive a free subscription to Focus. See it on the Web. Register your watershed partnership on-line or by calling 765 494-9555.
