Agenda Item |
Discussion/Decision |
Next Steps |
Need to find new Chair |
Revital would be a good candidate |
Need to check with supervisors to see if okay |
ACWI approval of Guide and WQDE |
ACWI decision delayed due to renewal of charter; very supportive and appear to concur. Will vote in January. ACWI wants further work on habitat DEs |
Wait for ACWI meeting in January |
Habitat DE development |
Need to bring in new people to help; may need to develop a “taxonomy” of system types in which to couch habitat DEs |
Get out version 2 of habitat Des developed by LeAnne and Revital to workgroup for comment. Solicit new people to help: Maggie Passmore, EPA Region 3, Wetlands people; Phil Kaufman, EPA ORD, USGS NAWQA people? |
ESAR standard and comment period |
ESAR lists already multi-media – need to look at for ways to extend Des to other data types and media; not much time or interest in commenting on well standard drafted for ESAR |
Will request comments of workgroup on standard; Curtis willing to serve as a facilitator to help others understand ESAR – perhaps schedule a web cast with interested Board members and others. |
IOOS/NOAA metadata |
Large metadata focus but very different from ours; may have useful WQDE info for use in the Network and other applications |
Chuck working on getting the right EPA people to deal with this and get more clarity on how their metadata standards relate to WQDE effort |
WQDE Implementation |
Tools such as PDAs need to be pushed; Revital has created files for PDAs under SWAMP program in CA; could develop Excel module for PDA as first tier, then more automated/programmed version for Tier 2 (like what Dan did last year in a prototype version) |
Consider luch seminar at Conference on PDAs – Revital; solicit vendors of PDAs and related tools to help fund CRADAs to get WQDEs better used in monitoring; link with other organizations on proposals regarding tools to help implement WQDEs |
Monitoring Conference |
LeAnne submitted general abstract for presentation. |
None |

Discussion from Methods Board Meeting, October 18, 2005, Middleton , WI
Develop strategic plan around the “What”
What: marine methods, bioassessment methods (comparability), probes, sensors, real-time methods, green methods, field methods
Several of these are already being addressed to some degree: bioassessment methods (WSA-EPA project; NEMI); green methods (CRADA for NEMI); field methods (NEMI). Need more focus perhaps on some of these types of methods in other realms (e.g., new technologies and event monitoring, water security, information management).
