Work Group Factsheets

• Water Information Strategies Work Group - The Water Information Strategies Workgroup is a partnership of water- quality experts drawn from federal agencies, states, tribes, municipalities, industry, universities, and private organizations. It is a sub-group of the National Water Quality Monitoring Council. The workgroup's purpose is to define and promote goal-oriented monitoring by proposing strategies for sampling, data storage and retrieval, data analysis, interpretation, and reporting in support of the evolving information needs of water-quality management.

• Methods and Data Comparability Board - The Methods Board is a partnership of water-quality experts from federal agencies, states, tribes, municipalities, industry, and private organizations. It is chartered under the National Water Quality Monitoring Council. The Board's challenge is to identify, examine, and recommend monitoring approaches that facilitate collaboration and yield comparable data and assessment results. Four key elements anchor the framework of the Board's efforts.

  • National Environmental Methods Index (NEMI)
    • Why is a National Environmental Methods Index needed? - The selection of analytic methods is a critical part of environmental monitoring program planning. A high priority recommendation of the MDCB is the development of a compendium of method summaries to support monitoring program planning. The proposed National Environmental Methods Index (NEMI) will allow rapid communication and comparison of methods, thus ensuring that the consideration and reconsideration of analytic methods is a more active part of the planning and implementation of programs.
