Flood Frequency Software
There are several software packages available which implement the recommended flood frequency analysis methods described in Bulletin 17C.
USGS PeakFQ version 7.1 - USGS Peak-Flow Frequency Analysis software
- The USGS PeakFQ version 7.1 fits the LP3 distribution to the annual peak streamflow data by implementing the recommended methods in Bulletin 17C, including EMA with interval, historical/paleoflood data, MGBT, and new confidence intervals. This software works on Windows 7/8. The PeakFQ user manual (Flynn and others, 2006) does not currently describe all the features in this version; however an updated manual is in progress.
USACE HEC-SSP 2.1 – USACE Statistical Software Package developed by Hydrologic Engineering Center for Flood Frequency Analysis software
- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Hydrologic Engineering Center HEC-SSP software was released in June 2016 to includes Bulletin 17C methods. The software, a user’s manual, and examples can be downloaded from the above link. The users’ manual describes concepts in Bulletin 17C (EMA with flow intervals and perception thresholds, historical/paleoflood data, MGBT, and confidence intervals). Seven examples from Bulletin 17C are provided to illustrate these concepts in practice with the software.
